The most common request we get isn't 'grow my traffic,' it's 'my ads aren't working.' Nine times out of ten, the ads are sending perfectly good traffic to a landing page that would struggle to convert even a warm audience. Before increasing budget, we run every underperforming page through the same five-point audit.
The 5-second clarity test
Show the page to someone unfamiliar with your business for five seconds, then ask them what the page is offering and who it's for. If they can't answer both clearly, your headline and hero section are the problem, not your ad targeting.
Common conversion killers we find
The same handful of issues show up in almost every low-converting page we audit.
- Weak or vague headline that describes the company, not the outcome for the visitor
- Call-to-action buried below the fold or repeated with different wording
- No social proof visible without scrolling
- Form asking for more fields than the offer justifies
- Page load time over 3 seconds on mobile

Match the offer to the traffic temperature
A cold Meta ad audience clicking through needs education and trust-building before an ask. A retargeting audience or someone who searched your brand name on Google needs a direct, low-friction path to convert. Using the same page for both is a common mistake.
The best headline in the world can't fix a page that's asking a stranger for too much, too soon.
What we test first, in order
We never test everything at once. The order matters because each layer affects the next.
- 1. Headline and hero value proposition
- 2. Above-the-fold call-to-action placement and copy
- 3. Social proof position and specificity
- 4. Form length and field requirements
- 5. Page speed and mobile rendering

What realistic improvement looks like
Moving a page from 1% to 3-4% conversion is common with these fixes alone, effectively tripling or quadrupling the return on the exact same ad spend. Before increasing your budget, make sure you're not just sending more traffic to the same leaky bucket.
